Why FRENAVIA? The surprisingly simple story behind the name

One Georgian sentence, two aviation words, and considerably less planning than the software itself.

Apparently, naming aviation software requires less strategy than building it.

FRENAVIA was built to simplify flight support, one system replacing the usual collection of tabs, messages, spreadsheets, emails and the occasional “who has the latest version?”

Naming it was slightly less complicated.

During a conversation between VARRA’s CEO and COO, Nino, we were trying to find a name that felt original, international and unmistakably connected to aviation.

Then, in Georgian, came the sentence:

„მე მინდა ამ სოფტვეარის სახელი ფრენასთან და ავიაციასთან იყოს კავშირში...“

“I want the name of this software to somehow connect flying and aviation…”

And somewhere between ფრენა (Frena, meaning “flight” or “flying”) and Avia (aviation), the conversation basically solved the problem itself.

FREN + AVIA.

FRENAVIA.

There was no two-month naming workshop.

No 87-slide brand deck.

No agency explaining that the letter F represents “forward momentum.”

It just made sense.

And that became strangely appropriate for the product itself.

Because FRENAVIA was created around the same idea: aviation operations already contain enough complexity. The software shouldn’t add more.

The name took a conversation. The software took considerably longer.

FRENAVIA

Born from aviation. Built to make it simpler.
